Standing on the shoulders of giants
The first Citizens for a Better Lansing was founded in the 1980s. It started with a group of residents concerned about the need for recycling. It morphed into a group focused on fighting corruption in city hall. The group was successful in saving multiple city parks and historic assets, bringing corrupt city practices to light, promoting a slate of responsive and responsible candidates to local elected positions and boards, and developing programs and positive infrastructure for the city.
Concerned about the questionable practices of local government, a local group of community leaders banded together in 2015 to once again become watchdogs over local policies and practices.
